Masking tape for scale modelling

Masking tape for kits lets you protect already-painted areas and get clean lines when painting with an airbrush or brush. Especially useful for camouflage, cockpits, bodies, colour bands, panels, vehicles, aircraft and miniatures with sharp colour separations.

What tape width to choose

  • 1 mm: ideal for very fine lines, soft curves, narrow bands and small details.
  • 3 mm: versatile width for colour separations, edges, panels and medium areas.
  • 10 mm: useful to cover larger surfaces, protect wide areas or combine with narrower tapes.

Tips to avoid paint bleed

Apply the tape to a clean, dry surface, press the edge that defines the paint line firmly and remove it carefully once the coat is dry to the touch. For precision work, use tweezers, a cutter or cutting tool and thin paint coats.

FAQ about masking tape

What tape should I use for curves or fine lines?

For soft curves, narrow bands and small details, fine tape such as 1 mm works well. To cover more surface, combine it with 3 mm or 10 mm tape.

Does it work with an airbrush?

Yes. It's very useful with an airbrush to define colours, camouflage and panels. The key is applying thin coats to avoid paint build-up at the edge.
