Description
Natural Iron Oxide Vallejo 73115: soot, smoke and realistic dark grime effects
Extra-fine powder pigment designed for soot, blackish dust and smoke/exhaust deposits with natural finishes. Its matte black tone adds depth and contrast in areas exposed to heat and combustion, and makes it easy to transition into greys, dark browns and rust tones. The fine grain size allows subtle glazes and smooth transitions on metal, plastic or resin, and its non-flammable nature makes it safe for indoor use. The 35 ml jar will last for many weathering projects and dries without unwanted shine.
For dry application, place the pigment with a soft brush wherever it would naturally settle by gravity (horizontal surfaces, recesses, tracks and running gear). Blend with a clean brush to soften panels or break up uniform areas. If you want light fixation without losing texture, touch the pigment with a brush dampened in pigment fixer/binder; for more volume, mix it with binder to obtain a paste and create crusts, burnt areas and heavy build-ups. Compatible with water, acrylics and varnishes; clean tools with water and soap.

Suggested uses: on military and industrial vehicles it creates exhaust stains and soot on nozzles, grills, exhausts and hoods; on railway stock and machinery it reproduces coal and black grime on bogies, wheels and chassis; in urban and post-war dioramas it simulates smoke staining, fire damage and dark patinas over masonry, asphalt and metal structures. Alternate layers with greys, siennas and rust tones, sealing when needed to preserve the stratified weathering effect.
