Dark Steel Vallejo 73123: polished steel, gunmetal and realistic metallic wear
Dark Steel Vallejo 73123 is an extra-fine powder pigment designed for dark steel, burnished metal and friction marks with a natural metallic look. It lets you recreate anything from matte gunmetal to polished steel along edges and moving parts. The fine grain size allows smooth glazes and transitions over metal, plastic or resin, and its non-flammable nature makes it safe to use indoors. The 35 ml jar goes a long way over multiple weathering projects and dries without unwanted shine (you can buff it afterwards to bring back metallic sheen).
For dry application, place the pigment with a soft brush on areas that show wear and contact (edges, rivets, hinges, tools). For a stronger polished steel effect, gently burnish with a cotton bud or stiff-bristle brush. If you want light fixation without losing texture and shine, touch the pigment with a brush dampened in pigment fixer/binder; once dry, you can re-burnish lightly to restore the metallic look. For more volume, mix it with binder to obtain a paste and create scratches, metal dust buildups and worn tracks. Compatible with water, acrylics and varnishes; clean tools with water and soap.
